A group of ten convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to making defamatory statements about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.

The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A longstanding false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.

Their lawsuit states that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.

Owens has often echoed these allegations on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she was a teacher at his high school.

The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
