Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
